iPad, Mac and iCloud sync
Which devices Mountain Passes runs on today, how your rides, visits, places and posters follow you to a new iPhone through iCloud, and what to check when sync is behind.
This guide is still being written. The steps below are an outline and may not match the app exactly yet.
Mountain Passes is an iPhone app. Everything you record is stored on the phone and mirrored to your iCloud account, so a new iPhone, a restore, or a second iPhone on the same Apple Account picks up your whole collection with nothing to export or import. Dedicated iPad and Mac versions are not available yet.
What syncs
- Rides with their GPS tracks and statistics
- Pass visits with dates, photos, notes and tags
- Places, trips and the bucket list
- Your poster collection and achievements, which are worked out from the visits
Settings such as the theme, units and GPS accuracy stay on each phone.
Steps: get sync working
- Sign in to the same Apple Account on both phones.
- In iOS Settings › Apple Account › iCloud › Saved to iCloud, make sure Mountain Passes is switched on (look under See All if it is not listed at the top).
- Open Mountain Passes on the second phone with a connection. The first sync can take a minute; photos come last.
Troubleshooting
- A ride is missing on the other phone. Open the app on the phone that recorded it, with Wi-Fi or cellular, and leave it open for a moment. Sync runs while the app is active.
- Different data on two phones. Check both are signed in to the same Apple Account, that Mountain Passes is on in the iCloud settings on both, and that iCloud storage is not full.
- I set up a new iPhone from a backup and the collection is empty. Give it a few minutes online; the data arrives from iCloud, not from the backup.
- I use an iPad. The app is built for iPhone. If it is offered on your iPad, it runs in the iPhone layout; there is no dedicated iPad interface yet.
